Hua Yu Wee (华友园)

Craving for crab feast? You can try out one famous place for crab which is Hua Yu Wee (华友园) located along Upper East Coast Road. It was for Mum's advance birthday celebration so we were there on a Saturday evening, seated indoor with aircon. You can also choose to sit outdoor which is very spacious too.
Hua Yu Wee is also recognized by it's colonial style exterior with a big kitchen beside (another block) where there are many cooks at work. That explains why their food is being served so fast!

So hungry! Let's order some food!

This was the last dish but I gonna put it first because it's my favourite. The pincer is huge and the meat is succulent, firm and sweet. Love it especially the sauce which also goes very well with the fried golden buns (below).

Can't get enough of this

Another favourite - Fried baby squids, so crispy and tasty. Munch munch~

Fresh boiled prawns - easy to peel, simple yet succulent and good.

Fish Maw soup - not starchy at all, savoury and generous in amount of fish maw.

"Feng Sha Ji" A special marinated boneless roast chicken which goes very well with their special made sauce. *Thumbs up*

Yam Ring - Nothing special about this but still not bad though, just that it was a little dry.

Finished our food with satisfaction~ *Pat tummy*

With a Pinch of Salt

Attended a friend's birthday celebration at a cafe located along Tanjong Katong Road. 'With a Pinch of Salt' - an interesting name when I first heard. The color and deco used for this cafe is cute and of nursery style theme, baby colors and gives u a light and comfy feel.

I supposed we were kind of "lucky", the cafe went dark all of a sudden due to a power outage but thankfully resumed after awhile. The food are mostly western fusion based, nothing relatively special, but presentable with moderate taste. The lady boss is a friendly person, just that we faced an issue for one of her staffs who had missed out one of our orders and insisted we didn't order in the first place. The unlucky one had to wait for quite long with his tummy rumbling.

Corn soup

Finger food - Wings, wedges, nuggets, chipolatas

Squid ink seafood pasta

  Ribeye steak

I don't remember what dish is this :(

Teriyaki Chicken

 Chicken Cordon Bleu

Old Uncle Mac's Fav. - Combo of steak, lamb chop, chipolatas, bacon, ham, potato wedges and sunny side up

 Tom Yam Spaghetti

Creme Caramel pudding

Strawberry Milkshake

Straits Cafe @ Rendezvous Grand Hotel

Rendezvous Grand Hotel after its renovation looks much better. They have this buffet place - Straits Cafe, where I always wonder if it's worth trying. I went on a Sat evening so it's $50 per pax for a weekend dinner. Be sure to make reservation. I didn't as it was a last minute decision, luckily there was vacant seats for 2. Phew~

The spread is decent and those were food with substance. The taste and appearance were satisfying, my favourite items like oysters, boston lobster, long-leg crabs, and durian pengat were available! Of course there are more things like grilled stingray, squids, big head prawns etc.

Cold seafood section

Grilled food corner

Sushi and Sashimi section. Oysters are opened here on the spot too when ordered hence very fresh.

Range of cooked food section

Salad corner

There were some local fare such as Laksa, Roti Prata and Teh Tarik! Their nutritious soups were nice too. See below for images!

'Xi yang cai' soup

Fresh Oysters! We had quite a number of these.

Huge head prawns = very sinful

Boston lobsters, long legs crab and conch.

Salmon sashimi

Another favourite corner of mine - DESSERTS!

Durian cake, sorry didn't managed to capture the whole cake hence just one piece of not so 'nice looking' but yummy one.

Durian pengat(I ate so much of them) and durian crepe.

Overall, although the pricing is more to the steep side, some of the varieties make it worthwhile though. With DBS card, you will enjoy 20% discount.

Hungry Chimps @ Prinsep Street

Having to brainstorm a place for Hubby's birthday celebration and upon chance, I came across this newly opened shop-house type cafe located along Prinsep Street. It looks pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try.

I checked with them if they have whole cakes available for sale and they sent me a catalog with varieties to choose from. They will prepare it in advance and can even try to decorate it in a way you want. This is a plus service.

Upon reaching the place, I was happy that the place is indeed very cozy and nice. Their ape/chimps art-pieces have liven the whole place and they look so cute! The seating area were comfy and there's a TV hung right in front which I supposed is for those who can come here to enjoy live soccer screening and chill.

Hungry Chimps is located at 2nd floor which is right above Play Nation. They are affiliated.

Nice color combination setting. Look at those chimps arts, funky and cute isn't it?

 These are our seating area.

Cozy, clean and neat looking.

Menu! Let's start deciding what to eat.

Breaded whole Onion Rings - Crunchy on the outside but there seem to be too much flour coated. The taste could be much better.

Calamari Rings - Crunch peppery taste, quite nice.

Cream Mushroom Soup - This is good, I like its mushroom taste richness with cream fragrance.

Chicken Wings with OMG! BBQ Sauce. The sauce was stated to be very spicy but I didn't try it.

The Chimps Beef Stew - Beef cubes simmered in Red wine and Chicken stock. You can choose to go with butter rice or Ciabatta bread roll. I chose the latter one. The beef is really rich in taste and I finished every single drop of broth which is simply savoury.

The Orient - Grilled Chicken Chop marinated in oriental spices and brown sauce. You get to choose 2 side dishes. I didn't try this, my friend indicated it's quite nice though.

The Ocean Catch - White Dory Fish Fillet in Garlic Mustard Batter with choices of 2 sides. The fish itself is pretty fresh and nicely battered.

Taiwan Lychee Beer - Sweet and refreshing

Fresh Strawberry Milkshake with Marshmallows - One of their recommendations. I like it. :)

Tada~ This is the chocolate fudge cake which I asked them to help me prepared in advance. Rich in taste and of premium quality too. Importantly, Hubby likes it a lot. ^_^

Thanks Hungry Chimps for acceding to my requests and making this a wonderful event for all. :)

Overall, we are satisfied with the food and great service provided. We will definitely be back for more.
